About Me

Hi!  I'm Linda Lawliss, and I've been teaching English composition and literature for 25 years at various institutions and through tutoring. I received my master's degree in Comparative Literature from San Diego State University but started my teaching career teaching composition as a graduate student!  I've also had the opportunity to work with students who speak English as a second language!  I truly believe that anyone can write well when they learn to use the right tools and receive continued feedback and encouragement.  Writing (and learning in general) is a process.

Watching students unlock their thoughts and ideas, and communicate them clearly is what - ultimately - brings me back to teaching year after year.

Helping students to find their own voices through writing is vital because in our culture saturated with an overabundance of information, young people MUST learn to think critically about what they hear, and then develop the skills to articulate their own thoughts and ideas in a reasonable and logical way.

What Motivates Me

I love to read.  I love to write.  I'm a wildflower and photography hobbyist.  I'm also crazy about nature and hiking as long as I have my beloved whippet with me on the trail (I love dogs!). I'm never bored.
